The Calcutta Stock Exchange Limited (CSE) is one of the oldest stock exchanges in Asia and was the second-largest bourse in India for many decades. Located in the historic Lyons Range, it was granted permanent recognition by the Government of India in 1980 under the Securities Contracts (Regulation) Act, 1956.
Historically, CSE was a hub for trading in the Eastern region of India. In 1997, it replaced its manual "open outcry" system with C-STAR (CSE Screen Based Trading and Reporting), a fully computerized online trading platform.
While active trading on its own platform was suspended by SEBI in 2013 due to compliance requirements, the exchange continues to facilitate trading for its members through tie-ups with the NSE and BSE.
