Studds Accessories Ltd is a world-renowned manufacturer of helmets. It has come a long way since its inception in the early 1980s, when it manufactured its first helmet in the garage. Today, Studds produces more than 6 million helmets annually.

Studds has one wholly owned subsidiary, SMK Europe Unipessoal LDA, based in Portugal.

According to the new government norms, only helmets that have been certified by the BIS (Bureau of Indian Standards) will be made and sold in India. This should benefit Studds most since his company is one of the few manufacturers that has received this certification.

The demand for helmets is projected to grow at a double-digit rate over the next few years as traffic norms become stricter and organized players increase their market share, while sales of premium vehicles are also on the rise.

The company anticipates strong future demand, and has invested Rs. 200 crore under the government’s ‘Make in India’ scheme to increase its manufacturing capacity from present 7 million to 14 million.

The Studds manufacturing plants are fully automated and equipped with a variety of molding, visor coating, paint shops, packaging and warehousing units. This makes the Studds manufacturing plants some of the largest in Asia.
